Schlitterbahn New Braunfels is the flagship park and is America’s #1 waterpark for 18 years and has won awards for the best waterpark, best waterpark ride (The Master Blaster) and best new ride (Dragon’s Revenge.)
It’s The Year of Anniversaries at the Texas Schlitterbahn Waterparks and Resorts!
I love history and I thought it was fun to know that the three Schlitterbahn waterparks in Texas all have special anniversaries this year. So whether you are going to the New Braunfels location (like us), or heading far south to the South Padre Island Park, or even going east to the Galveston Island waterpark, there are special anniversaries at every Schlitterbahn location. That is very cool. Let me give you a few examples below.
Schlitterbahn New Braunfels
The World’s Most Award Winning Uphill Water Coaster, The Master Blaster, turns 20 this year! The Schlitterbahn New Braunfels park is home to a guest favorite, which is this world famous Master Blaster. It was built in 1996, and is a 2.5 minute ride and over 65 feet tall! It says it sends guests on an exhilarating ride down two, 3 story drops. Yikes! It is easily the most iconic uphill water coaster in the world. I’m ready to make some family memories by going on this coaster. WHoo hooo!
Schlitterbahn South Padre Island Waterpark
I’ve been to South Padre Island once and it was beautiful, but never made it to the waterpark. This year marks the 15 year anniversary of the opening of the Schlitterbahn South Padre Island Waterpark! Wow. Built in 2001, this park is home to the Transportainment River system that is designed to maximize time in the water and eliminate lines. It was the first of its kind! This river system connects eight attractions that feature rapids, chutes, and gentle currents. We truly believe that when you come to the beach, you should just be able to sit back and enjoy your tube ride while you tan.
Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark
This year marks the 10 year anniversary of the opening of the Schlitterbahn Galveston Island Waterpark. Built in 2006, this waterpark is located on historical Galveston Island and has been voted as the World’s Best Indoor Waterpark for 8 straight years. This park features more than 33 attractions and a mile long Transportainment River system. To celebrate its 10 year anniversary, Galveston will be unveiling a new ride, which will be the world’s tallest water coaster – MASSIV! So, if you are planning on going to Galveston this year, make sure to check out the WORLD’S TALLEST WATER COASTER!
What’s a Water Coaster? A water coaster is a water ride that has multiple uphill sections, uses a ride vehicle (boat, tube, or raft), and has other ride elements (spirals, fish ladders, water screens, etc.) to deliver a thrilling and fun filled ride.
Every park has a claim to fame:
FYI: You’ll also find the pines all over Schlitterbahn New Braunfels – look for the pine paneling in the Riverbend cabins and the lovely furniture pieces here and there.
Be on the lookout for my follow-up review post. I plan to include a ‘survival guide’ and how we made our memories as a family. For now, I have some great resources for our pre-trip to the park from the SchlitterBLOG (Get it? Get it? HA!), and I’ll share them with you below:
See you at Schlitterbahn!
